Scholarship Guide

Current scholarship opportunities will always be posted in the following locations:

There are many sources for scholarships. Some examples are

  • All universities that the students is considering attending.
  • Community foundations, organizations, or clubs.
  • Associations related to field or study.

Scholarships generally have a variety of criteria that have to be met by the recipient. Criteria are what the donor determines are important points regarding the student they want to assist. Common university and organization scholarship criteria may include any or a combination of:

  • Resident are (state, city, county region, or school corporation).
  • Grade point average and class rank.
  • Student enrollment status and major of study.
  • Family affiliation with or membership in an organization.
  • Leadership qualities and community/school involvement.
  • Financial need.

It is a good idea for students to develop a resume of their achievements and activities, including employment and extracurricular involvement, when applying for scholarships.

The first step is to apply to colleges and universities. Determine if a separate application is required for each scholarship. Follow these guidelines when applying for scholarships:

  • Apply for any/all scholarships to every university you are considering.
  • Complete each application fully and legibly.
  • Keep a copy of all applications.
  • Pay attention to deadlines!
  • File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by April 15. File it every year.

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS
Deadline: April 15, 2019
The American legion offers three scholarship opportunities to graduating seniors: The American Legion Post #73, The Sons of the American Legion Post #73 and the American legion Ladies Auxillary Post #73. Applications are available in Spartan Space?

TRI KAPPA VU SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: April 1, 2019
This is a $500.00 scholarship to a student planning to attend VU full-time in the fall. Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher. Applications are available in Spartan Space.

FRITCHTON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: March 8
This scholarship is awarded to a senior with postsecondary education plans. Applications are available in Spartan Space and should be returned to Mrs. Shepard

SKEF- RAINTREE CONSULTING SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 31
This scholarship is for a senior with plans to major in Social Work, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology or a related field. Applications are available in Spartan Space and due to Mrs. Shepard.

INDIANA SHERIFFS' ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Deadline: April 1
This is a scholarship for students committed to pursuing an education and career in a Law Enforcement field. Applicants must be a current member of the Association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member. Applications are available in Spartan Space.

ROTARY STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
Deadline: March 8
Charles R. Cronenwett Scholarship-This $2,000 scolarship is for a student holding a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher.

Harry G. Custred Scholarship - This scholarship honors long-time Rotarian and professional Engineer. It is for students with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. The applicant must plan to enroll in a college or university and major in Engineering.

LaRoche Scholarship-This $500 scholarship is for students with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher. The student must plan to attend Vincennes University in the fall.

Applications for each opportunity are available in Spartan Space just outside of the School Counseling Office.

JIM MCCORMICK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Awarded by the Decker High School Alumni Association
Deadline: March 20
Applicants must be a direct descendant of a Decker High School graduate. Applicants must be in the top 50% of their graduating class. Applications are available in Spartan Space outside of the School Counseling Office.

PACE JUDITH K. BOBE SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 29
Applicants must have been enrolled in the Head Start Program and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. All materials in the School Counseling Office and must be received by the application deadline.

KNOX COUNTY FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: April 4
Two $1500 scholarships are awarded to a graduating senior continuing their education in agriculture or an agriculture related field. Applications are availabel in Spartan Space

20th CENTURY CHEVY AUTOMOTIVE SCHOLARSHIP
Applicants must be accepted for enrollment to attend any automotive related technical or engineering field and have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Applications are available in Spartan Space.

ASQ SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 31, 2019
This $500 scholarship is for a graduating senior in the ASQ Evansville-Owensboro Section 0915 area. The application and guidelines can be found at    www.asq0915.com

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH - Knox County Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2019
This $500 scholarship opportunity is for any graduating senior with plans to pursue postsecondary education. Preference is given to members of the First United Methodist Church, but anyone can apply. Applications are available online at
www.vincennesfumc.org         or in Spartan Space outside of the School Counseling Office.

MONROE CITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
Deadline: March 15, 2019
This application is for any senior with a direct relative who graduated from Monroe City High School: parent, grandparent, great grandparent, etc. Applications are available in Spartan Space just outside of the School Counseling Office.

GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
Deadline: March 8, 2019
The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation offers several scholsarship opportunities for graduating seniors. Applicants must have 3.0 cumulative GPA or higher and pursue a field of study in the area of healthcare where a need has been identified by GSH Administration. Additionl information and requirements along with the scholarship applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

CLASS OF 1968 SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 31, 2019
This is a financial need based scholarship application for all members of the Class of 2019. Seniors who are a descendant of a graduate of the Class of 1968 will be given preference. Applications are available in Spartan Space outside of the School Counseling Office.

VINCENNES KIWANIS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 31, 2019
Applicants must be an active key Club member with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Applications are availabel in Spartan Space just outside of the School Counseling Office

ETFCU TED HITCH SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 1, 2019
The Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union offers a $5000.00 Ted Hitch Scholarship. Applicants or applicant's parents/guardians must be a member of ETFCU for at least 18 months. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher and the use of at least three ETFCU services is required. Applications are available in the School Counseling Office.

INDIANA DAR SCHOLARSHIP and NATIONAL SOCIETY DAR OPPORTUNITIES
Deadline: March 1, 2019
This is a minimum $500 award. Applications for the Indiana DAR Scholarship and additional information on the NSDAR opportunities can be found in Spartan Space 

CERES SOLUTIONS SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline: March 1, 2019
This scholarship is for students who have spent four years in 4-H or two years in the FFA.

SOUTH KNOX EDUCATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Deadline: March 29, 2019   Several Scholarships are available through the SKEF. Applications are available in the school counseling office.

MARY J. SZEZEPANSKI "Never give up" ms SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
This opportunity is for seniors with a passion to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis research, which results in a $1,000 scholarship opportunity for students. Visit    http://www.msscholarship.org/dnn/    for participation information. The deadline for complete participation is April 1, 2019.


ELKS LEGACY AWARDS

Eligibility: High school seniors going on to college who are the children or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks are welcome to apply. Applicants compete separately against other children and grandchildren from the state of their sponsoring Elks Lodge. They are judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community Service, Integrity

 ELKS EMERGENCY EDUCATIONAL GRANTS

Eligibility: Emergency Educational Grants provide college financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks in the form of renewable, one-year grants ranging up to $4,000. Students must demonstrate financial need to qualify for an EEG. This grant is for educational assistance only and is not intended to cover the entire cost of a college education.

 VINCENNES UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships application for 2018-2019 academic year are no on-line at WWW.VINU.EDU/SCHOLARSHIP  
Be sure and click on the 2018-2019 academic year. For all consideration of all scholarships, this application must be submitted by . After that deadline scholarships are awarded based on availablility. For a complete scholarship listing, please to to    www.vinu.edu/scholarships    All scholarship applications submitted will be considered for an awared by a committee that will review each applicant's qualifications. Each committee's goal is to distribute more that $1,000,000 to those who are most qualified and/or most in need. A student may receive mulitple awards, but only one academic scholarship. Scholarship awarding is contigent on a student's successful admission to VU for the specific term(s) requested. For first and full consideration (including all Academic Scholarships), scholarship applications must be received by. Scholarship applications submitted after the deadline are not eligible for Academic Scholarships (Val/Sal, Presidential, Blue & Gold, Academic Honors Diploma). Filing of the FAFSA is required for all academic scholarships and most Foundation scholarships. FAFSA deadline
