Scholarship Guide

Current scholarship opportunities will always be posted in the following locations:

There are many sources for scholarships. Some examples are

  • All universities that the students is considering attending.
  • Community foundations, organizations, or clubs.
  • Associations related to field or study.

Scholarships generally have a variety of criteria that have to be met by the recipient. Criteria are what the donor determines are important points regarding the student they want to assist. Common university and organization scholarship criteria may include any or a combination of:

  • Resident are (state, city, county region, or school corporation).
  • Grade point average and class rank.
  • Student enrollment status and major of study.
  • Family affiliation with or membership in an organization.
  • Leadership qualities and community/school involvement.
  • Financial need.

It is a good idea for students to develop a resume of their achievements and activities, including employment and extracurricular involvement, when applying for scholarships.

The first step is to apply to colleges and universities. Determine if a separate application is required for each scholarship. Follow these guidelines when applying for scholarships:

  • Apply for any/all scholarships to every university you are considering.
  • Complete each application fully and legibly.
  • Keep a copy of all applications.
  • Pay attention to deadlines!
  • File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by April 15. File it every year.

ESA FOUNDATION

The Epsilon Sigma Alpha Foundation offers more than 200 scholarships a year for deserving students. Applications are reviewed by the Regional Scholarship Committee. Information and applications are available at

 TROPICANA EVANSVILLE PROJECT 21 SCHOLARHIPS

Tropicana Evansville is seeking potential recipients for a scholarship. Project 21 is an educational program designed to communicate the consequences associated with under aged gambling. Students may submit essays, posters, and/or videos/DVDs. Applications and guidelines are available in the Guidance Office and due by April 6, 2018


 

NEXT GENERATION TEACHER SCHOLARSHIP

The Next Generation Teacher Scholarship was created to help the next generation of Hoosier teachers pay for college. The State of Indiana will provide 200 scholarships each year to high-achieving high school and college students interested in pursuing a career in education. The scholarship pays $7,500 per year for up to four years. In exchange, students agree to teach for five years at an eligible Indiana school or repay the corresponding, prorated amount of the scholarship. Appy by: November 30, 2017 Visit:

INDIANA DAR SCHOLARSHIP
The Indiana DAR Scholarship is a $500 award to a Hoosier student sponsored by the Francis Vigo Chapter in Vincennes. The application for this scholarship must include a sponsorship letter. Application packets are available in Mrs. Shepard's office and due by March 1st.

INDIANA TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION ESSAY CONTEST
High School Seniors can enter an essay contest regarding the history and significance of the 7th Amendment for a chance to win a $4000 scholarship. Entries are due by December 17th. Stop by Mrs. Shepard's office for a handout or visit

VINCENNES UNIVERSITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
Vincennes University Foundation offers several scholarship opportunities for students including the following: Val-Sal, Presidential, Blue and Gold, Academic/Technical Honors diploma. Applications are available in the Guidance Office and due by January 19, 2018.


 GPC WASHINGTON EMPLOYEES SCHOLARSHIP

ELKS LEGACY AWARDS

Eligibility: High school seniors going on to college who are the children or grandchildren of dues-paying Elks are welcome to apply. Applicants compete separately against other children and grandchildren from the state of their sponsoring Elks Lodge. They are judged on the core values of the Elks National Foundation: Knowledge, Charity, Community Service, Integrity

 ELKS EMERGENCY EDUCATIONAL GRANTS

Eligibility: Emergency Educational Grants provide college financial assistance to children of deceased or totally disabled Elks in the form of renewable, one-year grants ranging up to $4,000. Students must demonstrate financial need to qualify for an EEG. This grant is for educational assistance only and is not intended to cover the entire cost of a college education.

 VINCENNES UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships application for 2018-2019 academic year are no on-line at WWW.VINU.EDU/SCHOLARSHIP  
Be sure and click on the 2018-2019 academic year. For all consideration of all scholarships, this application must be submitted by . After that deadline scholarships are awarded based on availablility. For a complete scholarship listing, please to to    www.vinu.edu/scholarships    All scholarship applications submitted will be considered for an awared by a committee that will review each applicant's qualifications. Each committee's goal is to distribute more that $1,000,000 to those who are most qualified and/or most in need. A student may receive mulitple awards, but only one academic scholarship. Scholarship awarding is contigent on a student's successful admission to VU for the specific term(s) requested. For first and full consideration (including all Academic Scholarships), scholarship applications must be received by. Scholarship applications submitted after the deadline are not eligible for Academic Scholarships (Val/Sal, Presidential, Blue & Gold, Academic Honors Diploma). Filing of the FAFSA is required for all academic scholarships and most Foundation scholarships. FAFSA deadline
